G'Vine bills itself as the gin of France, and Nouaison is its bigger, spicier sibling to the brand's floral Floraison. Both start from an unusual base: distilled Ugni Blanc grapes, the same variety that goes into Cognac and Armagnac, giving the gin a rich, almost luscious texture underneath the botanicals. The name refers to nouaison, the viticultural moment when grape vines shift from flower to fruit — and this gin actually uses those short-lived grape blossoms as one of its fourteen botanicals, alongside juniper, cardamom, cassia bark, cubeb berries, nutmeg, licorice, bergamot, sandalwood, vetiver, plum, lime, and ginger. Sandalwood and vetiver in particular give it an almost perfume-like quality that's rare in gin. Master distiller Sébastien Robicquet relaunched this recipe in 2017 at a slightly higher proof than the original, adding more warmth and heat on the palate.
