Exo Terra Forest Bark, 4qt, is a completely natural substrate crafted from Douglas Fir bark, ideal for humidity-dependent reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates native to tropical or forested habitats. This substrate naturally maintains terrarium humidity by absorbing moisture and releasing it gradually, thanks to its hygroscopic nature. The distinct texture and sizing of the bark pieces encourage natural burrowing and digging behaviors while preventing crickets from hiding within the substrate.

While Fir bark is sometimes criticized in the reptile community for containing volatile oils that may affect neurological health, Exo Terra Forest Bark undergoes a specialized kiln-drying process to significantly lower these oil levels, ensuring safety for reptiles and small animals. Additionally, the bark is thoroughly tumbled to smooth out sharp edges and eliminate dust, and it is heat-treated to minimize bacterial presence.

Usage Guidelines:
