Exo Terra Forest Bark, available in a 4qt size, is a completely natural substrate crafted from Douglas Fir bark. This substrate is ideal for humidity-dependent reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates that thrive in tropical or forest habitats. Its moisture-retaining qualities help maintain terrarium humidity naturally by absorbing and gradually releasing water. The distinct texture and size of the bark pieces encourage natural burrowing and digging instincts while preventing crickets from hiding within the substrate.

Although Fir bark is sometimes criticized in the reptile community for containing volatile oils that may affect neurological health, Exo Terra Forest Bark undergoes a specialized kiln-drying process to minimize these oils, ensuring safety for reptiles and other small pets. Additionally, the bark is thoroughly tumbled to smooth out sharp edges and eliminate dust, while a heat-treatment process reduces the risk of bacterial contamination.

Usage Guidelines:

Lay down a minimum 2” layer of bark across the terrarium base. Adjust the moisture by watering or misting based on the desired humidity level.
