About the Alestes Tetra


The Alestes Tetra, also known as the Long-finned Tetra (Brycinus longipinnis), is an African freshwater fish characterized by its elongated dorsal and anal fins, particularly in males. It's a schooling, peaceful, and active fish with an iridescent silver body that exhibits blue and yellow hues, growing up to 5cm (about 2 inches) in length. While it can be kept in a community aquarium, it requires a large, well-planted tank with hiding spots, and it must be housed in groups of at least 5 to 8 individuals.

Water Temperature: 71-80 °F

Water pH: 6.0-7.5

Social Group: Schooling Fish, 6-8 individuals or more

Diet: Omnivorous; a wide variety of commercial, live and frozen foods

Compatible with: Congo Tetras, Catfish (Corydoradinae & Synodontis), Red Eye Tetra, Peaceful New World Cichlids (Uaru or Geophagus sp.)
